Cameron Carpenter
Film Concert: The Kid by Charlie ChaplinDescription
A grand cinema experience with Cameron Carpenter! This extravagant classical virtuoso with rock star flair has redefined the organ concert with an unconventional combination of the traditional sound of the gleaming pipes with a new style of play, offering a repertoire ranging from classical to pop. Born in Pennsylvania in 1981, Carpenter was already performing Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier by the age of eleven. He wrote his first original compositions at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, and his album Revolutionary brought him a Grammy nomination. Now, with Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid from 1921, he creates a score for a monument of film history – and does it in real time. Chaplin didn’t just write, direct and star in the film, he also composed the music for it. Carpenter builds on this score to accompany the silent movie on the organ. His improvisations create a unique combination of traditional sound production, film history and gifted instrumental playing: a feat that Carpenter masters with his usual brilliance.
