Michael Keegan-Dolan . Teaċ Daṁsa
MÁMAUSTRIAN PREMIERE
Description
A young girl in a white dress is lying on a kitchen table surrounded by hooded figures and a black ram. Is she still alive? This is the image that confronts the audience at the beginning of Michael Keegan-Dolan’s enigmatic choreography MÁM (“mountain pass“ in Gaelic). The award-winning choreographer famous for his storytelling was inspired by the landscape, traditions, atmosphere and mythical magic of the Ireland’s Dingle peninsula, where Keegan-Dolan lives. With his company Teaċ Daṁsa, accompanied by the concertina player Cormac Begley and the ensemble s t a r g a z e, he presents the dynamics of an association ionspired by traditional Irish rhythms to delve deep into folklore and the imagination. First performed in 2019, MÁM has thrilled audiences ever since: the company is touring it in 2024, capable as ever of fascinating viewers with its sombre and brutal but also crazy and humorous moments: “MÁM is full of engrossing dancing, fantastic music, subtle meanings and real humanity.“ (The Guardian)
